Students undertaking our Diploma Course need to be familiar with basic astrological concepts. The Course aims to develop a greater understanding of these, but not to teach them.

Students work with Teaching Manuals which have been specially written for the Course. Time taken to complete the Course would normally be around 2 - 3 years, though this is a guide only, and students are free to work at their own pace.

Modules are regularly reviewed and additions and improvements are added as required.

Progress Assessment

Students, under the direction of their own qualified tutor, are expected to complete an assignment after each Unit. There are 25 written assignments. Questions are designed to show that the content of the Modules has been understood and that there is a developing understanding of the birth chart and its interpretation and use. Students are generally not required to give long and detailed analyses of charts since it is not considered that such work necessarily shows a deep understanding of the birth chart in the context of the Course. Tutors are responsible for the continuous assessment of a student’s progress throughout the course.

Workshops

In the Diploma Course practical application of what is being taught will be offered by tutors as and when the requirement arises. On a personal level such workshops offer students the opportunity to meet tutors and fellow students, and this helps avoid the sense of isolation that can sometimes exist when undertaking any home study course.

Using the birth chart as an aid in counselling can be an important application of astrology but, although there are many good books on the subject of counselling, it is a skill which cannot be learned solely from the written word and requires practice in a “live” environment. For this reason it is essential that any astrologer who plans to work with clients acquires the appropriate counselling or therapeutic tools to enable them to do this.

Astrology is a powerful tool and in a counselling situation has the ability to touch into feelings which may be deeply repressed within the client’s unconscious. Knowing how far to go and when to refer a client to a more experienced source of support is essential.

Birth Charts

All students receive their own Birth Chart which can be used as a model throughout the Course. The chart for the ’birth’ of the school is drawn in the Huber style and is shown below.

Calculations

Students working on the Diploma Course are not required to calculate planetary longitudes, house cusps etc. Computer data is provided for charts.

Awards

Students are assessed by their tutor on their work throughout the course. There are no exams at any stage but there are Assessed Assignments at the end of Modules 2,4 and 6, which Students need to complete successfully before moving on to the next Module.

The final Assessed Assignment at the end of Module 8 is an opportunity for the student to apply all that has been learned during the course. Assessed Assignments are seen by a panel of tutors, and comments and feedback are given to the student.

A separate assessment fee, due at time of submission, is payable for each of these Assignments. The APA Diploma in Astrological Psychology is awarded to a student who successfully completes the course and whose work is to the required standard.

Payment of Fees

We regret that we are unable to make refunds on Course material and tuition once this has been paid for. Students may be asked to pay an additional fee for their tuition if they take a break of more than six months from their studies. APA is a non-profit making organisation and the fees charged reflect the remuneration paid to tutors for their commitment to students.

The cost for the Diploma course in full is £930

The cost if paying per module is £140 each

Full details are on the enrolment form, which also includes details of the discounted software for students who want to create and print Huber charts.
