This is the second volume of articles from the German-language magazine AstroLog to be published in English, following on from the first book Astrolog I: Life and Meaning. The articles are by a variety of authors, including Bruno and Louise Huber and API tutors Wolfhard König and Ruth Schmidhauser.
The book is in four parts, each containing articles related to a specific theme:
Part 1: The Family - astrological psychology related to developmental psychology and family counselling. Part 2: Children and Upbringing - how astrological psychology can help with upbringing, from theoretical and practical perspectives. Part 3: Relationships - the psychology of relationships and the use of various types of 'click' horoscopes, and a particular perspective on mother/daughter relationships and the story of Snow White. Part 4: Health and Therapies - the use of astrological psychology in the context of health issues and the alternative therapies of Bach Flower Remedies and Tarot.
Astrology and the Seven Rays on CD -now available in the bookshop
We are delighted to announce that the original tape recordings of the seminar given by Bruno & Louise Huber in 1998 on Astrology and the Seven Rays are now available on CD.
This inspirational seminar was the last given together by Bruno & Louise in English and the tape recordings have provided a treasured resource to many. Thanks to Elly Gibbs, the recordings are now available on CD in mp3 format, which allows them to be listened to on PCs and much modern audio equipment.
These recordings provide a valuable complement to the book 'Astrology and the Seven Rays', which was based on transcripts of the talks.
NEW BOOKLET "The Karma Clicks Horoscope - the Astrologer's Secret Weapon" now in the bookshop.
Münich psychoanalyst and API tutor Wolfhard König explains the psychological significance of the Karma Click Horoscope, with examples including the charts of Henry Miller and Anaïs Nin.
[The Karma Click Horoscope is also known as the Integration Horoscope.]
Tribute to Professor Alan Deyermond
Link to a Powerpoint file illustrating the three charts
Alan Deyermond was born in Cairo at 1.15pm on 24 February 1932. He studied at Oxford and was appointed as a lecturer at Westfield College, University of London, in 1955, as his age point entered Scorpio. He died on 19 September 2009 as his natal age point was entering Leo in opposition to Saturn in Aquarius and quincunx Mars-conjunct-nodal age point in Aquarius. Transiting Sun in Virgo opposed his North Node (Caput Draconis) in Pisces, transiting Pluto in Capricorn was semi-sextile his Saturn and transiting Mars in Cancer was semi-sextile his Jupiter.
At Westfield College, Alan, who became a professor of Medieval Spanish Literature, and his senior colleague, John Varey, who was a Professor of Golden Age Spanish Literature, built up a prestigious Department of Hispanic Studies. John’s birthday was 26 August 1922, so his Sun in 2° Virgo made an exact opposition to Alan’s Mercury in Pisces. Both men had the Moon in Libra, but John’s was later in the sign and Alan’s intercepted Moon made a conjunction to John’s unaspected Saturn in the early part of Libra. So his senior colleague’s Sun and Saturn were both in close aspects to Alan’s irritation triangle of Moon, Neptune, Sun-and-Mercury, with Mars semi-sextile Saturn loosely connected. The irritation triangle is the only complete aspect pattern in Alan’s natal chart and you can imagine that this was a challenging and formidable partnership of scholarly workaholics. They shared a dedication to excellence but their personalities were, of course, entirely different. Administratively Alan normally deferred to John, as founder of the department, and did not take his turn of leading it until after John became Principal of the College in 1983. He was, however, an influential Dean of Arts and, from 1986-89 a Vice-Principal of Westfield, which then merged with Queen Mary College.
With such a linear and vertical chart, Alan was a born initiator and leader, but his leadership took a different route.
In 1967, he founded the Medieval Hispanic Research Seminar which has grown in strength over the years to become the leading forum Hispanic Medieval research in the UK. Around the time of Alan’s second crossing point of natal and nodal age points in 1994, he founded a book series. The first Papers of the Medieval Hispanic Research Seminar of Queen Mary and Westfield College were published in 1995. With Alan’s encouragement I wrote volume 21 on the use of astrology in a 15th century Spanish poem by Juan de Mena.
Alan’s Jupiter is strong at 15° Leo in a second house with both cusps in Leo, trine Venus and Uranus in Aries in the 10th house. Jupiter also rules his 6th house. So it’s no surprise that Alan was an enthusiastic teacher and lecturer, ready to see ways of extending boundaries and incorporating alternative perspectives, and much loved by his students. Mine was the 44th entry on a WordPress blog of tributes to him from so many people who feel that their careers and achievements were stimulated by his enthusiasm and encouragement.
Alan’s output of publications was outstanding. For his scholarship he became a Fellow of the British Academy in 1988, and in 2009 he was elected corresponding Fellow of the Real Academia Española. Indicators of these achievements are the stellium of Sun, Mercury and Mars in the cardinal sector of the 9th house and the elevated North Node.
Yet Alan was a Piscean who always had time for people and for animals. His dog was usually with him and he was a vegetarian who studied the ingredients of biscuit packets to ensure they contained no animal fat. Alan lived life fully and could be quirky and amusing. He was a man of integrity and a devout Christian who was always interested in and respectful of other people’s beliefs.
Alan’s three charts are all different in structure. Whereas his natal chart is open and mostly linear, in the nodal chart with its store of treasures from the past we find the fixed figure of a streamer with Sun-and-Mercury at the three-coloured apex, Moon, Neptune and North Node. This figure gave Alan an underlying ability to access stored knowledge and experience, and respond at great speed. His office was always in a state of utter chaos and yet he never failed to put his hand on the book or paper he was looking for.
By contrast, his house chart is full of mutable figures. Pluto in the first house, unaspected in his natal chart, is involved in a medium learning triangle with Jupiter and Venus-and-Uranus, a dominant triangle with Sun-and-Mercury and Moon, and an achievement triangle with Venus-and-Uranus and Moon. At the physical level, he was a lecturer who had trained his voice to carry to the back of the room and insisted that students take notice despite whatever distractions. At the relationship level, he was a man who built bridges and brought out the best in people in an academic environment that could often be spiked by sarcasm. At the highest level, he was a spiritual man, whose strong spirit has touched all of us who knew him – and his spirit will live on.
